'Spaces await discovery, as do identities, in relation to their contexts,' Lujane Pagganwala.
New performative site-specific installations by Lihong Bai, Lujane Pagganwala and Vincenzo Muratore confer this discovery, in subtly participatory phenomenological spaces, across three galleries. These installation spaces engage the visitors' sensorium and convey the complexities of identity, through analogy and the inventive merging of intermedia. This includes: performance, film, sculpture, printed or etched text and imagery on nontraditional materials, memory objects - all intermeshed with narrative. The artists explore spatial theories - Foucaudian Heterotopias, Gaston Bachelard's The Poetics of Space: The Classic Look at How We Experience Intimate Places, and Carl Jung's psychoanalytic architectural theories of space.
Identity is fluid, ever changing, like desert winds and global tides, transient over time and place, as personal and cultural facets shift, intermingle, Self-reconstructing through life’ ongoing experiences. Where do the poetics of the Self reside, sheltered in the ways of being that house us?
Explore the artists multifaceted narratives, in spatial passage, to reflect on the Poetics of the Self, in shifting variations.
